Who are Verona Kiwanians?

The demographic profile of the Kiwanis Club of Verona is much like that of Verona itself:  men and women, single and married, young adults and senior citizens, parents of pre-school children and parents of adults.  The average age of a Verona Kiwanian is 46.

What does the Verona Kiwanis do?

The club meets at noon on the first and third Thursdays of each month in the lower-level conference room at the Park Bank in Verona.  Lunch is provided at no charge for all registered guests and as an annual fee option for club members.  For 30 minutes on the first Thursday and an hour on the third Thursday, members discuss the fund-raising and service projects they work on together within the community and hear more about work done by Kiwanis outside of Verona.  Occasionally, the club schedules programs where speakers provide information on children’s needs or other topics of local interest.  Members of the public are always encouraged to attend those program-based meetings.

Throughout the year, as they’re able, club members (along with friends and family members) help with fund-raising activities like carnival ride ticket sales at the Hometown U.S.A. Days festival in June, and food/drink sales at community events.  They also volunteer time to assist with service projects in and around Verona.

How are club decisions made?

Five officers and four board members meet for 30 minutes on the first Thursday of each month to approve activities and formally direct the club.  Most of the operational decisions, however, are made at the committee level.  Committees focus on  membership and growth, programs and education, fund raising, service projects and sponsored programs, and public relations and communications.  Members are encouraged to contribute their ideas and opinions, and participate on at least one committee.

How much time should I expect to give?

There are no requirements for attendance at meetings or for minimum hours of service.  Committees meet only when necessary and rarely outside of the scheduled Thursday committee planning sessions. Members are invited to attend the Thursday meetings and participate in projects, but they volunteer only as much time as they’re able to give.

How much money should I expect to give?

The annual per-member fee is $175 (without meals at speaker sessions) or $400 (with meals).  This covers all administrative costs, allowing the club to channel monies collected in fund-raising efforts directly to needy children and their families.

What’s in it for me?

This list is long:  new friends, business and community networking, opportunities to be creative and share experiences, have fun while helping other people and, most of all, the satisfaction in working shoulder to shoulder with other Kiwanians on behalf of the children of Verona.
