Kiwanis clubs view their role within their respective communities with a significant amount of foresight.  Key aspects to operating an effective club include:

 
  • Evaluating both children’s issues and community needs
  • Conducting service projects to respond to those identified needs
  • Maintaining an active membership roster of community-minded people who have both the desire and the ability to serve

In Verona, Kiwanians have:

 
Verona Warm Winters
During the fall of 2008, we are sponoring (for the third year) a winter clothing drive entitled “Verona Warm Winters.” On November 15, we will be distributing all items collected to needy area children and their families.
 
Adopt-A-Park
Created an “Adopt-a-Park” program in partnership with the City of Verona and regularly cleaned up their adopted park, Harriett Park
 
Verona Food Pantry
Collected food outside of Millers’ and Sons and helped place donated items on shelves to benefit the Verona Food Pantry. Volunteer work also includes ongoing work on site at the pantry, distributing and organizing food.
 
Schools of Hope
Read to local elementary students and help them learn how to read better themselves through the “Schools of Hope” program
 
School Supplies
Purchased school supplies for local children who can’t afford to purchase their own
 
 
Church Projects
Includes service projects, teaching, committee work done in conjunction with religious organizations not connected to Kiwanis.
 
 
Conzemius Scholars
Work with this Verona High School includes community service, mentoring, chaperoning and more.
 
 
Soapbox Derby
Help out with various duties to make the Derby run smoothly. Work with Verona kids who are interested in participating in the race.
 
 
Kiwanis Meetings
These would include attending district and International meetings, and leadership training.
